From thesis to enterprise architect
Jonas joined Regin in 2008 as an Application Engineer. Prior to that, he wrote his master’s thesis at Regin within wireless technologies. Today, he has stepped into the role of Enterprise Architect in the Group IT Department, focusing on delivering high-quality, secure, and on-demand IT services across the group.
A career journey across disciplines
Jonas first came into contact with Regin while searching for a thesis topic. What stood out to him was the combination of technical depth and clear business purpose.
“The fact that Regin develops products to reduce and optimize energy consumption in buildings was a major factor in my decision. At the same time, the company was small enough to offer insight into the full product development process, yet large enough to provide stability.”
What started as a thesis quickly became a career. After graduating, Jonas joined as an Application Engineer, working across areas from embedded design to product management. Over time, Jonas’ focus shifted beyond the technology itself.
“After a few years close to the products, I became curious about how we could improve the way we worked, especially as we moved towards a more agile setup.”
This led him into the roles of Change Manager and Line Manager, where he became responsible for development teams and led a change initiative to enable a more efficient team structure.
A field in constant evolution
Today, as an Enterprise Architect, Jonas works on building and preparing the organization’s IT capabilities to ensure secure, high-quality services while meeting regulatory requirements.
“Despite the differences in technology and organizational approach, my background in development helps me quickly understand how systems are structured and interact at a higher level. That perspective is very valuable.”
He also highlights the pace of change within the field.
“We are seeing a clear shift towards cloud-based solutions, alongside the rapid advancement of AI. It’s a growing field that combines complexity, technology, psychology, and human behaviour.”
Growth, purpose, and perspectives ahead
Reflecting on both his colleagues and his own career path at Regin, Jonas sees strong opportunities for growth.
“Careers can develop in different directions - either by choosing a broad career path, exploring different roles and building a wider skill set, or by deepening expertise in a specific area.”
Looking ahead, Jonas is motivated by building an IT organization that can quickly adapt to new technologies and changing business needs, while staying connected to its users. He also highlights the strong commitment among colleagues, which supports effective collaboration.
“Across the organization, I have always met truly committed people who care about what they do and the impact they create together. I believe this is closely linked to the fact that we operate in a field where contributing to a more sustainable future is a core objective, and where our products play an important role on a global scale,” Jonas concludes.
